Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts.

Spreading Mum’s love and joy with Pineapple Tarts.

Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts is more than just a pineapple tart. It is a very personal tribute to a mother, Swee Bee. Best known for her culinary skills, Swee Bee created a special authentic pineapple recipe that tickled the taste buds and captured the hearts of many friends back then.

So for decades, her motherly love and affection is deeply felt and encapsulated in every detail of her pineapple tarts. In 2019, Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts is officially made to the public by her son, Baker Dave who wants to share the legacy of her mother to everyone. Following his mother’s footsteps, Baker Dave has been baking since 2009. His baking skills had led to the setting up of his own café and eventually the formation of the brand, Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts.

With the best combination of buttery pastry and 100% pure pineapple fruits and the right amount of other ingredients, Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts gives an authentic experience of this all-time favourite Malaysian delicacy.

Our Founder

From Mum with love to the world.

“I grew up watching and helping my mother, Swee Bee to make pineapple tarts. I still remember cutting those fine strips of pastry to place on the pineapple tarts as a lace. In those days, we still use the traditional Nyonya style of baking – open face pineapple tarts. It was my Mum who taught me in 1982 all the basic principles of baking the pineapple tarts which required patience, discipline, precision and an eye for detail to get that perfect pineapple tarts.

The unique thing about Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts is the square shapes. Many pineapple tarts are typically round but ours is square because we want to be different and my Grandma even once teased me that I could eat all 4 squares because I have a big mouth (嘴大吃四方). The saying goes, “Big mouth promises good fortune as whatever corner of the earth we do(one seek his fortune), one has enough to eat.”

That’s not all. To set ourselves different from the Taiwanese pineapple tarts which are also square in shape, Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts embossed the surface of the tart with the word “Fu” (福) or “Fortune”. In Chinese Hokkien, the word “pineapple” itself means “ong lai” or “here comes prosperity”. Why do I choose the character “Fu” on the pineapple tart? Beside meaning fortune, it also means blessing. My mother has blessed me with her recipe and guidance, hence I wish to bless others of great fortune and prosperity with our Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts.

Today, what makes me proud of Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts is not just its taste and legacy but also the cultural heritage we bring along. Our packaging is full of information of the colourful Peranakan (Straits Chinese) culture and also Batik design. It make Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts as a perfect gift of heart for everyone around the world.

In short, Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts brings Malaysia Truly Asia to the world! Enjoy our pineapple tart adventure with us!”

Taste of Malaysia and Mum’s love in every bite

Our Vision: Bringing Malaysia Truly Asia culture to the world

We aim to promote Malaysia culture through Malaysia’s very own delicacy – pineapple tarts. That is why we instill some educational value in our packaging by providing information on our Peranakan culture, from the authentic pineapple tarts, batik, kebaya fashion to beaded shoes and more. Apart from it, we also aim to educate more about the Chinese Malaysian culture, from the way we celebrate Chinese New Year, the auspicious symbols to warm greetings.

We want the world to know that pineapple tarts are a delicacy that close to our heart as a Malaysian. As pineapple was introduced to Malaya by the Portuguese in the 16th Century and the Straits Chinese or Peranakan community created the pineapple tarts by combining English pastry from the Portuguese and pineapple paste recipe by Peranakan themselves. Since then, pineapple tarts has become a “must have” delicacy during festive seasons like Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Deepavali. It is the only delicacy that is shared and celebrated by all 3 major races – Malay, Chinese and Indians in Malaysia. Pineapple tarts are like a melting pot of cultures loved by all.

In short, we want to take our Malaysia brand to the world. Swee Bee Pineapple Tarts. Malaysia’s Truly Asia delicacy. From our Mum to the World!
